Shelby Cobra 427
Overview
With its hand-built steel-tube frame imported from AC Cars in Surrey, England, the Shelby Cobra was an impressive joint venture between Carroll Shelby and AC Cars, which had previously found success with the AC Ace. As part of their agreement, AC would send along a body, and Shelby would provide the – Ford-sourced ‘side oiler’ 427 cubic inch – engine. While not a success in terms of sales, the Cobra was so fast that a national speed limit was enforced in the UK due in large part to aggressive Cobra drivers.
