BMW M1 Procar
Overview
As the very first ‘M’ car, the BMW M1 received rave reviews for its daring styling and solid performance and in 1979, a one-make racing series featuring the race-spec M1 called the BMW M1 Procar Championship was launched. Races took place during a break in the Formula One season, and F-1 drivers were encouraged to participate; however, Ferrari and Renault – who were selling road cars that competed with the M1 - forbade their drivers from taking part in Procar, which ran until 1980.
